Interdisciplinary Care: The Health Care Team-II

An interdisciplinary team includes many healthcare professionals working together and utilizing their skills, knowledge, and expertise to provide holistic and quality patient care. Here are a few more healthcare professionals.
Physical Therapist
A physical therapist (PT) aims to restore function or prevent additional impairment in a patient following an injury or disease. Massage, heat, cold, water, sonar waves, exercises, and electrical stimulation are some treatments used by PTs to treat...

Interdisciplinary Care: The Health Care Team-I

An interdisciplinary team includes many healthcare professionals working together and utilizing their skills, knowledge, and expertise to provide holistic and quality patient care.
Physicians
The physician's primary responsibility is to diagnose illness and direct the medical or surgical treatment of the condition. The authority to admit patients to a healthcare agency or institution and practice care within that setting is granted to physicians by the healthcare agency or institution itself.
Integrated Healthcare System01:20

Integrated Healthcare System

An integrated healthcare system (IHS) is a set of organizations that provides for or arranges to provide coordinated and continuous service to a defined population. The IHS takes responsibility for that particular population's health status and outcome, both clinically and fiscally. An integrated healthcare system is a well-organized, well-coordinated, and collaborative network. The integrated delivery system is a network that connects different healthcare providers to deliver organized,...

Nursing Clinical Information System

Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS)
A Nursing Clinical Information System (NCIS) is a specialized type of healthcare information system tailored to meet the unique needs of nursing practice. It incorporates the principles of nursing informatics to streamline information management and improve the quality of care delivery.
Critical attributes of NCIS include:
Hospitals-II00:59

Hospitals-II

Hospitals provide inpatient and outpatient services. Inpatient services provide care to patients that stay in the hospital for an extended period, ranging from days to months. Examples of inpatient services include intensive care units, hospital wards, or surgeries. Outpatient services provide care to patients who come to a hospital for a diagnostic or treatment but do not stay overnight —for example, diagnostic tests, surgical procedures, or health education.
Nurses that work in hospitals have...

Aneurysm III: Interprofessional Care

Aneurysm management involves either conservative medical therapy or surgical intervention, depending on the size and symptoms of the aneurysm. Conservative management is generally reserved for smaller, asymptomatic aneurysms, while larger or symptomatic aneurysms often necessitate surgical repair.Conservative Medical TherapyFor small, asymptomatic aneurysms, particularly abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) less than 5.5 centimeters in diameter, conservative medical therapy is recommended. Area of Science:

  • Medical Informatics
  • Virtual Reality
  • Human-Computer Interaction

Background:

  • Traditional 3D medical systems often lack intuitive interaction methods.
  • Tele-consulting and virtual reality (VR) offer potential for remote medical collaboration.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To introduce and evaluate the iMedic system, a two-handed immersive 3D medical platform.
  • To assess the efficiency of iMedic's interface for 3D tasks and collaborative scenarios.

Main Methods:

  • Development of a two-handed immersive and distributed 3D medical system (iMedic).
  • Implementation of features including measurement tools, interactive segmentation, non-orthogonal views, and 3D markup.
  • Conducting user studies comparing iMedic's performance against mouse and one-handed wand interfaces for 3D object placement and construction.
  • Evaluating avatar-to-avatar collaboration versus face-to-face collaboration in iMedic-based scenarios.

Main Results:

  • iMedic's two-handed interface demonstrated 4.5-4.7 times faster 3D object placement/construction than a mouse.
  • iMedic was 1.3-1.7 times faster than a one-handed wand interface for the same tasks.
  • Avatar-to-avatar collaboration within iMedic was more effective than face-to-face collaboration for three specific tasks.

Conclusions:

  • The iMedic system provides an intuitive and efficient interface for 3D medical tasks.
  • Two-handed interaction in VR significantly enhances performance in 3D manipulation compared to traditional methods.
  • Immersive virtual collaboration can be superior to traditional methods for certain medical training and consultation scenarios.
