Summary

Pathology trainees often complete a 4-year residency followed by a fellowship. Fellowship applications are currently uncoordinated, unlike the residency match. In 2007, residents voiced concerns about this system. The Association of Pathology Chairs evaluated the issue and proposed a new matching program. The goal is to standardize fellowship applications and improve the process. The new system will start in 2011-2012 for fellowships beginning in 2013. The report outlines the data and stakeholder feedback that led to this recommendation. It also discusses the pros and cons of the proposed change.
