Involving patients and the public in transplantation research

Patient and public involvement aims to create a partnership between healthcare users and researchers, so that the methods and outcomes of research are more appropriate to research participants and patients. This means doing research with rather than to, for, or about patients and the public. This report summarizes a workshop held in London to explore research participation from the patients' perspective, focusing on why patients participate in research and how clinical researchers can actively engage healthcare users in research planning and execution to enhance outcomes.
