Summary

Researchers isolated six diterpene compounds from Clerodendrum kaichianum Hsu., with four new to the genus. Three compounds showed significant cytotoxic activity against the HL-60 tumor cell line.

  • A new rearranged abietane diterpene, (16R)-12,16-epoxy-11,14,17-trihydroxy-17(15-->16)-abeo-8,11,13-abietatrien-7-one (1), was identified.
  • Five known diterpenes: villosin A (2), salvinolone (3), 14-deoxyloleon U (4), 5,6-dehydrosugiol (5), and coleon U (6) were isolated.
  • Compounds 1, 2, 3, and 5 represent new reports for the Clerodendrum genus.
  • Compounds 1, 2, and 6 exhibited potent cytotoxic effects against HL-60 cells.

Conclusions:

  • The study successfully isolated and identified six diterpenoids from Clerodendrum kaichianum Hsu.
  • The findings highlight the potential of Clerodendrum kaichianum Hsu. as a source of cytotoxic diterpenes.
  • Compounds 1, 2, and 6 warrant further investigation for their anticancer properties.
