Background:

Home abortion methods require safe and effective protocols.
Immediate post-abortion contraception is crucial for family planning.
The RU 486 regimen and the Evra® patch are established medical options.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate a novel protocol for home-based safe abortion using RU 486.
To assess the effectiveness and acceptance of immediate contraception with the Evra® patch following home abortion.
To determine the feasibility of integrating contraception services with early abortion care.

Main Methods:

A cohort of 400 women undergoing home safe abortion with RU 486 was studied.
One hundred women opted to initiate contraception using the Evra® patch immediately post-abortion.
Data on abortion success rates and contraceptive continuation were collected.

Main Results:

The proposed home abortion protocol demonstrated a low failure rate of 3% (12 cases).
The continuation rate for the Evra® patch as immediate contraception was 50% (50 women).
The Evra® patch was well-accepted among participants initiating contraception.

Conclusions:

Early home abortion using RU 486 is a viable and safe method.
The Evra® patch is a well-accepted and potentially first-line contraceptive option for immediate post-abortion use.
Integrating immediate contraception with home abortion services can improve reproductive health outcomes.
