Summary

Excessive removal of the labia minora during labiaplasty can cause asymmetry. A novel cross-labial flap technique successfully reconstructed this iatrogenic complication, restoring symmetry.

Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Gynecologic Surgery
  • Reconstructive Surgery

Background:

  • Labioplasty, a cosmetic or reconstructive surgical procedure, can lead to complications such as iatrogenic labial asymmetry due to overzealous resection of the labia minora.
  • Managing such complications requires a thorough understanding of reconstructive plastic surgical principles.

Observation:

  • A case presented with significant labial asymmetry following labiaplasty, resulting from excessive excision of the labia minora.
  • This iatrogenic asymmetry posed a reconstructive challenge.

Findings:

  • A successful reconstruction of the iatrogenic labial asymmetry was achieved using a cross-labial flap.
  • This technique effectively addressed the tissue deficit and restored symmetry.

Implications:

  • The cross-labial flap is a viable reconstructive option for managing labial asymmetry after labiaplasty.
  • This case highlights the importance of meticulous surgical technique and the utility of advanced reconstructive methods in gynecologic and plastic surgery.
