Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) reveals that hippocampal microstructural integrity is linked to verbal memory in elderly individuals with cerebral small vessel disease (SVD). These findings suggest DTI may detect early neurodegeneration before visible structural changes. Keywords: DTI, hippocampal integrity, verbal memory, SVD.
