- Personality Psychology
- Interpersonal Perception
Background:
- Understanding the factors influencing interpersonal accuracy is crucial in social psychology.
- Social curiosity, a trait reflecting interest in others, may play a role in how accurately individuals perceive others' personalities.
Purpose of the Study:

- To examine how social curiosity affects the utilization of social information (verbal and nonverbal cues) in forming these judgments.
Main Methods:
- 182 participants interacted for 10 minutes.
- Participants then judged their interaction partner's Big Five personality traits.
- Cue utilization (verbal and nonverbal) was analyzed in relation to social curiosity levels and judgment accuracy.
Main Results:
- Individuals high in social curiosity demonstrated greater accuracy in judging Extraversion and Openness.
- High socially curious judges utilized valid verbal and nonverbal cues more effectively for these traits.
- No significant differences in accuracy or cue utilization were found for Neuroticism, Conscientiousness, or Agreeableness.
Conclusions:
