Summary

A rare complication occurred during double J catheter insertion: an intrapyelic guide wire loop. This guide wire loop was successfully resolved without invasive intervention.

Observation:

  • A 24-year-old female with pelvic tumor-induced obstructive uropathy underwent double J catheter insertion.
  • During the procedure, the guide wire formed an intrapyelic loop within the renal pelvis.
  • The loop was successfully managed and resolved without requiring aggressive measures.

Findings:

  • Intrapyelic guide wire loop formation is a rare but potential complication during double J catheter insertion.
  • This complication can occur even in the presence of pelvic tumors causing obstructive uropathy.
  • Non-aggressive management strategies may be sufficient for resolution.

Implications:

  • Awareness of this rare complication is crucial for urologists performing double J catheter insertions.
  • Endourological procedures involving guide wires carry inherent risks.
  • Further research into preventative and management strategies for guide wire complications is warranted.
