Abstract:
The oscillatory potentials (OPs) were determined in 120 normal eyes of 60 Chinese subjects. The results showed that at least 4 wavelets (OP1, OP2, OP3 and OP4) could be recorded in all eyes. The amplitudes and implicit times showed no differences between either right and left eyes or sexes. The OP amplitudes were highest in the 10-20 year age group and lowest in the 60-70 year group. They decreased gradually with increasing age and the differences between age groups were highly significant statistically (P less than 0.01). The implicit times of wavelets were significantly correlated with age (P less than 0.01) in alinear fashion, lengthening with increasing age. In this study, a formula for measuring OP amplitudes was applied and it was found to be more precise and scientific than the routine caliper-square measurement.
