A genome-wide association study of attempted suicide

Genetic factors influence suicide attempts, partly independent of psychiatric disorders. A genome-wide association study identified a potential genetic risk locus on chromosome 2p25, implicating the ACP1 gene in bipolar disorder suicide attempts.

- ACP1, a tyrosine phosphatase influencing Wnt signaling, is a functional candidate gene for suicide attempt risk.
- Larger GWAS sample sizes are required to confirm the 2p25 signal and identify further genetic risk factors for attempted suicide.
