Summary

A rare skin condition, unilateral colloid milium, presented as asymptomatic facial papules in a 31-year-old man. Histopathology confirmed extensive deposition of colloid material, leading to the diagnosis.

Background:

Colloid milium is a rare depositional dermatosis characterized by the accumulation of colloid-like material in the dermis.
Unilateral presentation is uncommon, making this case noteworthy for its localized manifestation.

Observation:

A 31-year-old male presented with a 31-month history of asymptomatic, skin-colored, translucent, dome-shaped papules.
The lesions formed a 4 x 3 cm plaque on the left mandibular angle, consistent with a unilateral dermatosis.

Findings:

Histopathology demonstrated epidermal atrophy with extensive, pale eosinophilic, homogenous deposits.
These deposits showed artifactual fissures, were periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) positive, diastase resistant, and Congo red negative, characteristic of colloid material.

Implications:

This case highlights the importance of histopathological examination for diagnosing rare skin conditions like unilateral colloid milium.
Understanding the specific histopathological features aids in differentiating colloid milium from other depositional disorders.
