  • Analyzed COI sequences to determine genetic distances and identify unique barcodes.
  • Main Results:

    • Unique COI barcode sequences were obtained for most species, with the genus Apolygus (Miridae) being an exception.
    • The average interspecific genetic distance was approximately 16 times greater than the average intraspecific genetic distance.
    • DNA barcoding identified one probable new true bug species and distinguished recently diverged or identical species that were morphologically distinct.

    Conclusions:

    • COI DNA barcoding is a powerful tool for identifying true bug species.
    • This method can successfully reveal new cryptic species and contribute to the accurate identification of true bugs.
    • The genetic divergence patterns support the utility of COI barcodes in resolving true bug taxonomy.
