[Street work and AIDS--experiences and considerations from a socio-pedagogic viewpoint]

Streetwork has proved its worth as a method that is useful in AIDS work. The emphasis is on rendering direct help to the affected persons. This help has indirectly a preventive effects as well because it initiates and supports action that is directly related to social care. Self-initiatives of patients with a positive HIV finding should be given support and should be promoted by communal bodies. AIDS help offers must be re-examined and changes appropriately in accordance with the requirements of the patients and the acceptability of the measures. The AIDS or HIV patients themselves must be basically involved in this permanent orientation process.
