Feeding dependent eaters among geriatric patients
Journal of Nutrition for the Elderly
|January 1, 1990
Abstract:
Eating is considered a pleasant and enjoyable part of everyday routine for most people. But for many elderly people with disabilities, it can become an almost impossible task. As a result, they become a "dependent eater." There are many factors that have a profound effect on the entire course of the feeding process. The caregiver must consider these factors in order to provide the quality care to the elderly patients. However, with a good understanding and practice of effective techniques; feeding the elderly can ba a rewarding experience for both patient and caregiver.
