Summary

Probing dry-weight significantly reduces left ventricular mass index (LVMI) in dialysis patients. This intervention also improves blood pressure control, particularly in those with higher baseline LVMI.

  • The ultrafiltration group showed a significant reduction in LVMI at 4 weeks (-7.4 g/m², p=0.005) and 8 weeks (-6.3 g/m², p=0.045) compared to baseline.
  • Ultrafiltration resulted in a greater decrease in LVMI compared to the control group (-10.9 g/m² at 4 weeks, p=0.012).
  • Blood pressure reduction was more pronounced in patients with higher baseline LVMI who underwent dry-weight probing (p=0.02).

Conclusions:

  • Probing dry-weight is an effective strategy for reducing left ventricular mass index (LVMI) in long-term dialysis patients.
  • LVMI is a significant prognostic factor in dialysis patients and is responsive to interventions targeting dry-weight.
