Purpose:
To investigate the effects of tissue engineered bone scaffold material in the restoration of alveolar socket after extraction of lower impacted third molar.
Methods:
Thirteen patients were immediately implanted with Bio-oss or PerioGlas® in the alveolar cavity after impacted mandibular third molar extraction. Clinical observation and X-ray were taken 1 to 12 weeks after operation. Paired t test was used for statistical analysis by SPSS10.0 software package.
Results:
Thirteen patients did not experience postoperative complications. The distal alveolar height of the second molar and the gingival attachment did decrease significantly 1 to 12 weeks after operation(P < 0.05).
Conclusion:
Tissue engineered bone scaffold material is helpful in the restoration of alveolar socket after impacted third molar extraction.
