Summary

Single incision laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication is a feasible and safe alternative to the traditional multi-incision approach. This minimally invasive technique offers comparable outcomes for patients undergoing this anti-reflux surgery.

Background:

Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication is a standard treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease.
Traditional laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication typically involves five incisions.
Advancements in surgical techniques are exploring less invasive approaches.

Observation:

A single-incision laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication was performed on a 36-year-old female with a BMI of 29 kg/m².
The procedure utilized three trocars through a single incision.

Findings:

The operative time was 52 minutes.
No intraoperative or postoperative complications were observed within 30 days.
The patient was discharged on postoperative day one with a full liquid diet.

Implications:

Single-incision laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication demonstrates feasibility and safety.
This technique offers comparable outcomes to the traditional multi-incision approach.
Further adoption of single-incision techniques may enhance patient recovery and reduce surgical morbidity.
