Proteins have a hierarchical structure comprising at least three levels of organization: primary, secondary, and tertiary structure. The ubiquitin-proteasome pathway is a well-known mechanism utilized by eukaryotic cells to remove cytoplasmic proteins that are misfolded, damaged, or no longer needed.
