Summary

Using a lawn trimmer around phototoxic plants like Heracleum sphondylium can cause trimmer's rash. This skin reaction is best prevented by using lawn edgers only in the evening.

  • Lawn trimmers can expose skin to phototoxic plants, such as Heracleum sphondylium (common hogweed) and other Umbellifers.
  • Contact with these plants followed by UV light exposure can induce phytophotodermatitis, commonly known as trimmer's rash.
