Biomechanical Changes Related to Low Back Pain: An Innovative Tool for Movement Pattern Assessment and Treatment Evaluation in Rehabilitation

  • An open-label, community-based intervention study was conducted.
  • Participants with chronic, non-specific back pain (n=650) were enrolled, with specific exclusion criteria applied.
  • The 12-month APA program involved strength and flexibility training, and posture exercises in thrice-weekly group classes.

    • 261 participants (40.2%) completed the 12-month program.
    • Adherence to the APA program was associated with significantly improved health status and reduced back pain compared to non-adherent individuals.
    • Greater distance from home to the exercise facility (median 2.6 km) was linked to increased risk of non-adherence.

    • Community-based Adapted Physical Activity programs show promise for improving back pain and health status in chronic, non-specific cases.
