Summary

Silicone granulomas from ruptured breast implants can mimic malignancy on PET CT and MRI scans. Awareness of these imaging findings is crucial for accurate diagnosis in patients with implants.

  • Silicone breast implants are common for augmentation and reconstruction.
  • Implant rupture presents specific radiological signs.
  • Advanced imaging like PET CT and MRI can mimic malignancy.

Observation:

  • Retrospective review of four patients with silicone implants presenting with suspected malignancy on PET CT or MRI.
  • Two cases showed benign silicone granulomas with increased FDG uptake on PET CT.
  • One case had a suspicious mass on MRI, later found to be a benign tissue response.
  • Another case showed bilateral ruptured implants with lymphadenopathy, leading to a sarcoidosis diagnosis.

Findings:

  • Silicone granulomas can appear as masses with suspicious morphology and enhancement on MRI.
