Background:

The SiSTA intervention is a widely used, effective group-level HIV prevention program.
Targeting African American women aged 18-29, there is a need for accessible and engaging HIV prevention methods.
Computer-based interventions offer potential for wider reach and consistent delivery of prevention messages.

Purpose of the Study:

To describe the development of SAHARA (SISTAS Accessing HIV/AIDS Resources At-a-click), a computer-delivered HIV prevention program.
To adapt the core components of the SiSTA intervention for a digital platform.
To evaluate the preliminary effectiveness of SAHARA in promoting consistent condom use.

Main Methods:

SAHARA was developed using video clips and interactive Flash modules to maintain fidelity to SiSTA's core components.
Video clips featured group discussions and modeling of sexual and contraceptive behaviors.
Interactive modules facilitated cognitive rehearsal, learning through games/quizzes, and simulated role-play.

Main Results:

A preliminary study of SAHARA was conducted at Planned Parenthood in Atlanta.
SAHARA, followed by a brief health educator-led session, was effective in promoting consistent condom use for vaginal sex.
