Background:

Limited research exists on body shape ideals' influence on adolescent males.
Understanding these influences in physically active adult males is crucial.
Eating behaviors and body composition are key areas of concern.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess the influence of body shape models on adult males engaged in intense physical activity.
To determine the relationship between body shape ideals, eating behavior, and body mass index (BMI).
To analyze changes in these influences between 1998 and 2008.

Main Methods:

A total of 950 males (aspiring professional soldiers) were studied.
Data collected using the Questionnaire of Influences on Body Shape Model (CIMEC-V) and Eating Attitudes Test-40 (EAT-40).
Physical activity, BMI, and comparative data from 1998 and 2008 were assessed.

Main Results:

Scores on CIMEC-V correlated significantly with EAT-40 and BMI.
Gym-based exercise showed a positive correlation with body shape model influence.
Two subgroups emerged: one with higher scores on influence, eating attitudes, and BMI (>25).

Conclusions:

Results differ from younger samples, suggesting a potentially lower risk of disordered eating.
A higher-risk group identified where body shape ideals, physical activity, and eating behaviors relate to greater body volume.
The influence of body shape models on males has increased, driven by peer influence and weight loss behaviors.
