Summary

Gallbladder contraction is impaired in some patients with gallstones, but not all. This study identified a subgroup with significantly reduced gallbladder emptying, suggesting varied motility issues in gallstone disease.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate gallbladder volume and contraction in patients with asymptomatic gallstones.
  • To compare gallbladder motility between gallstone patients and healthy controls.
  • To explore the relationship between stone characteristics and gallbladder motor function.

Main Methods:

  • Ultrasonography was used to assess gallbladder volume and contraction.
  • 65 patients with asymptomatic gallstones and 65 healthy controls were studied.
  • Gallbladder contraction (GC) was measured, and patients were subgrouped based on GC percentage.
