Summary

Intralesional bleomycin injections offer a safe and effective treatment for congenital lymphangiomas, achieving complete resolution or significant improvement in all five patients. This method avoids invasive surgery and systemic treatments, with minimal adverse effects observed.

Background:

  • Congenital lymphangiomas are rare lymphatic system malformations.
  • Surgical excision is the traditional treatment but has a high recurrence rate due to tissue infiltration.
  • Alternative treatments are sought for lymphangiomas where complete surgical excision is not feasible.

Observation:

  • Five patients with congenital lymphangiomas in various locations (leg, cervical, latero-thoracal) were treated.
  • Treatment involved repeated intralesional bleomycin injections at 4-week intervals, not exceeding 0.5 mg/kg.
  • Indications for treatment included lesion location and infiltration making surgery impossible.

Findings:

  • Complete resolution was observed in 4 out of 5 patients.
