Summary

Castleman's disease, a rare lymphoproliferative disorder, can be challenging to diagnose. This case highlights successful radiotherapy in a patient with a misdiagnosed superior mediastinal mass, leading to symptom relief and remission.

Observation:

  • A 55-year-old woman presented with a large superior mediastinal mass and severe symptoms.
  • Initial misdiagnosis and incomplete surgical resection occurred.
  • Pathologic examination confirmed Castleman's disease.

Findings:

  • Radiotherapy (30 Gy, then 60 Gy) led to significant symptom improvement and partial remission.
  • Computed tomography showed a marked reduction in mass size.
  • The patient remained alive and asymptomatic at 10-month follow-up.
