Summary

Serum angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) activity declines with age in rats, but this reduction is not linked to lower thyroid hormone levels or reduced food intake. This finding suggests ACE activity may not be a reliable biomarker for hypothyroidism in aging rats.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To determine if serum ACE activity can serve as a biomarker for tissue hypothyroidism in aging male Fischer 344 rats.
