Skin cancer is a type of cancer that occurs when there is an abnormal growth of skin cells, usually triggered by damage to the DNA within the skin cells.   • Malignant melanoma incidence is rising globally.
  • Acral lentiginous melanoma (ALM) is a rare subtype, often presenting on the soles or palms.
  • Early diagnosis and management are crucial for patient outcomes.

Observation:

  • A 58-year-old male presented with a suspicious lesion on his right foot sole.
  • The lesion measured 15-20 mm in diameter.
  • Initial biopsy confirmed acral lentiginous melanoma.

Findings:

  • Histopathological diagnosis confirmed ALM.
  • Sentinel lymph node biopsy revealed no micrometastases (AJCC Stage IB: T2aN0M0).
  • Wide local excision (2 cm margin) and split-thickness skin grafting were performed for reconstruction.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of recognizing rare melanoma subtypes.
  • Effective surgical management, including wide excision and reconstruction, can lead to favorable outcomes.
  • Further research into optimal ALM management strategies is warranted.
