Summary

Elastosis, a new finding in granular cell tumours, is common and associated with fibrosis. Connective tissue cells likely synthesize elastic fibres, possibly stimulated by tumour cells.

Background:

  • Granular cell tumours (GCTs) are neoplasms of neural crest origin.
  • The histopathological features of GCTs are well-documented, but novel findings continue to emerge.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the presence and characteristics of elastosis in granular cell tumours.
  • To determine the association between elastosis and other histological features, such as fibrosis.

Main Methods:

  • Histopathological examination of 28 consecutive granular cell tumour (GCT) specimens.
  • Identification and localization of elastosis within the tumour microenvironment (adventitial, interstitial, septal).
  • Statistical analysis to correlate elastosis with fibrosis.
