Background:

  • Chorioamniotic membrane separation (CMS) is a pathological condition arising from the separation of the chorionic and amniotic membranes.
  • This separation can occur spontaneously or secondary to invasive intrauterine procedures, potentially leading to severe pregnancy complications.

Observation:

  • A case of complete CMS was diagnosed at 29 weeks gestation via routine ultrasonography.
  • The diagnosis was made in the absence of concerning fetal status or intrauterine abnormalities, following a prior amniocentesis at 16 weeks.
  • Ultrasonography revealed a free-floating membranous structure within the intra-amniotic cavity.

Findings:

  • Prenatal diagnosis of complete CMS was confirmed by pathological examination post-delivery.
