Summary

Disseminated cysticercosis, a rare condition where cysticerci spread throughout the body, was diagnosed in a Mongolian patient presenting with seizures. Medical therapy with albendazole effectively reduced the numerous cystic lesions.

  • Cysticercosis is a parasitic infection caused by the larval cysts of the tapeworm Taenia solium.
  • Disseminated cysticercosis, characterized by widespread cysticerci, is exceptionally rare.

Observation:

  • A 39-year-old Mongolian male presented with generalized tonic-clonic seizures.
  • Extensive imaging (brain CT, spine MRI, whole-body MRI) and biopsy confirmed disseminated cysticercosis involving the brain, subcutaneous tissues, and skeletal muscles.

Findings:

  • The patient was diagnosed with disseminated cysticercosis affecting multiple organ systems.
  • Albendazole treatment led to a significant reduction in the number of cystic lesions observed on follow-up MRI.
