This study investigates potential patterns in the selection of medical professionals for these honors.

Purpose of the Study:

To analyze the geographical and specialty distribution of Padma award recipients in the field of medicine between 2000 and 2010.
To identify any potential biases in the selection process for these prestigious awards.

Main Methods:

Data on Padma awardees in medicine from 2000-2010 were collected from newspapers and the Ministry of Home Affairs website.
A total of 137 awardees (excluding foreigners and alternative medicine practitioners) were analyzed for their geographical origin and medical specialty.
