Abstract:
This action-research (I) explores the phenomenon of "self-actualization" of the elderly living in a nursing home (EMS or medico-social establishment) with 50 inhabitants and 70 collaborators for all sectors of activity. To begin comprehensive interviews were carried out with the inhabitants and collaborators. The study makes it possible to clarify the notion of self-actualization of the elderly through the following elements: definition, demonstration, supporting factors, barriers and interventions to be proposed. We highlight a field of tension in which the collaborators act: the phenomenological approach of the person, which is necessary to support the self-actualization of the resident and the necessity for taking account of the resources and needs for the community. A model for a practice supporting the feeling of self-actualization is proposed.
