Chlorido(pyridine-2-carboximidamide-κN,N)zinc(II) chloride dihydrate
Abstract:
In the title salt, [ZnCl(C(6)H(7)N(3))(2)]Cl·2H(2)O, the pyridine-2-carboximidamide ligands chelate to the Zn(II) atom, which is also coordinated by a Cl atom. The Zn(II) atom shows a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination, with the pyridyl N atoms occupying the axial positions. The cation, anion and water mol-ecules are linked by N-H⋯Cl, N-H⋯O, O-H⋯Cl and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional structure.

Ionic Crystal Structures
Most monatomic ions behave as charged spheres, and their attraction for ions of opposite charge is the same in every direction. Consequently, stable structures for ionic compounds result (1) when ions of one charge are surrounded by as many ions as possible of the opposite...
