Abstract:
In the title complex, [Ni(NCS)(2)(C(7)H(9)NO)(2)], the Ni(II) atom is in a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment defined by two N atoms of the two thio-cyanate ions and by the N and O atoms of the two chelating 2-(pyridin-2-yl)ethanol ligands. The complex mol-ecule is located around a crystallographic inversion center. In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected into a two-dimensional polymeric structure parallel to (100) by O-H⋯S hydrogen bonds.

Structural Isomerism
Isomers are different chemical species that have the same chemical formula. Structural isomerism of coordination compounds can be divided into two subcategories, the linkage isomers and coordination-sphere isomers.
Linkage isomers occur when the coordination compound contains a ligand that can bind to the transition metal center through two different atoms. For example, the CN− ligand can bind through the carbon atom or through the nitrogen atom. Similarly, SCN− can be...
Precipitation Gravimetry
In determining nickel by gravimetric analysis, a precipitant of ethanolic dimethylglyoxime is added to a hot nickel salt solution. This is quickly followed by the dropwise addition of dilute ammonia solution until precipitation occurs. A...

Metal-Ligand Bonds
In these complexes, transition metals form coordinate covalent bonds, a kind of Lewis acid-base interaction in which both of the electrons in the bond are contributed by a donor (Lewis base) to an electron acceptor (Lewis acid). The Lewis acid in...
