Summary

The structuredness of the cytoplasmic matrix (SCM) test shows high accuracy for colorectal cancer detection. Prominent SCM test changes may indicate cecal cancers, a hard-to-reach area.

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Medical Diagnostics
  • Biophysics

Background:

  • Colorectal cancer (CRC) diagnosis relies on sensitive and specific methods.
  • The structuredness of the cytoplasmic matrix (SCM) test is a diagnostic tool for CRC.
  • Early detection of cecal cancers is challenging due to anatomical location.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the diagnostic performance of the SCM test in 81 colorectal cancer cases.
  • To investigate potential correlations between SCM test results and the anatomic location of colorectal cancer.
  • To assess the SCM test's utility in identifying cancers in hard-to-reach locations like the cecum.

Main Methods:

  • Analysis of 81 confirmed colorectal cancer cases.
  • Application of the structuredness of the cytoplasmic matrix (SCM) test.

  • Subgroup analysis based on the anatomic location of the malignancy.
  • Evaluation of diagnostic sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values.
  • Main Results:

    • The SCM test demonstrated high diagnostic sensitivity (92%) and specificity (92.6%).
    • Positive and negative predictive values were 96.3% and 84.7%, respectively.
    • A trend suggested more pronounced SCM test changes in cecal cancers compared to other locations.

    Conclusions:

    • The SCM test is a highly accurate method for diagnosing colorectal cancer.
    • Findings suggest the SCM test may be particularly valuable for detecting cancers in the cecum.
    • Further site-specific surveillance is recommended to validate the association between SCM test changes and cecal cancers.
