Summary
Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) assess tumor malignancy. This study found no correlation between standardized uptake value (SUV) from PET/CT and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) from DW-MRI in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Radiology
- Medical Imaging
Background:
- Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) and diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (DW-MRI) are established oncologic imaging techniques.
- Standardized uptake value (SUV) from PET/CT reflects tumor glucose metabolism, while apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) from DW-MRI indicates tissue cellularity.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the correlation between SUV (SUVmax and SUVmean) measured by PET/CT and ADC values obtained from DW-MRI in patients with untreated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL).
Main Methods:
- Fifteen patients with histologically confirmed DLBCL underwent both PET/CT and DW-MRI before therapy.
- SUVmax and SUVmean were quantified from PET/CT images.
- Mean ADC values were measured from parametric ADC maps derived from DW-MRI.
Main Results:
- A total of 28 lymphoma lesions were analyzed.
- The mean SUVmax was 16.8, and the mean SUVmean was 11.1.
- The mean ADC value was 0.74 × 10(-3)mm(2)/s. No significant correlation was found between ADC values and either SUVmax or SUVmean.
Conclusions:
- Standardized uptake value (SUV) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) represent distinct imaging biomarkers for tumor malignancy.
- These quantitative parameters derived from PET/CT and DW-MRI may offer complementary functional insights into tumor tissue characteristics in DLBCL.
