Abstract:
To clarify whether direct bone interface of submerged plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite-coated implants could be achieved by nontapping insertion, histologic and histometric studies were made on the structure of the interface between the implant and the mandible in two monkeys. All hydroxyapatite-coated implants, whether by nontapping or tapping insertions, were healed with direct bone apposition. No histologic and histometric difference of interface structure was observed between nontapping and tapping insertions.
