Abstract:
Intensification of chemotherapy is one of the possibilities that we have to improve treatment results in small cell lung cancer. It can be obtained by various ways: increasing the number of active drugs of a combination or the dosage of the agents given, reducing interval between chemotherapy courses or increasing the total duration of therapy. If the addition of a drug to an active combination, the increase of drug dosages or the administration of megadoses of chemotherapy with or without bone marrow transplantation have not improved survival, prolongation of therapy seems more effective, at least in responders. Weekly chemotherapy schedules and hematopoietic growth factors might change today's results.
