Summary

Poor nutrition during growth stunts immune organ development and weakens allergic responses in mice. Further research is needed to identify the specific immunomodulators involved in this dietary effect on allergies.

  • Diet manipulation altered polymorphonuclear granulocyte and mast cell characteristics.

  • Conclusions:

    • Diet quality significantly impacts immune organ development and allergic responses.
    • Undernutrition impairs mast cell degranulation, but not IgE or IL-10 levels.
    • The specific immunomodulators mediating these diet-induced effects require further investigation.
