Summary

High myopia increases glaucoma risk, independent of intraocular pressure. Myopic eyes may have structural weaknesses making them susceptible to optic nerve damage, necessitating closer screening for high myopia patients.

The relationship between myopia and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) remains debated.
Epidemiological data indicate that moderate to high myopia (>-6D) elevates glaucoma risk.

To review the evidence on axial myopia as a risk factor for POAG.
