Background:

  • Cognitive dysfunction (CD) is a common neuropsychiatric issue in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
  • Current detection methods, neuropsychological tests (NPT) and Automated Neuropsychological Assessment Metrics (ANAM), are time-consuming and not ideal for screening.
  • There is a need for efficient tools to identify CD in SLE patients.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) as a screening tool for CD in SLE patients.
  • To compare the MoCA's performance against the ANAM, considered the gold standard in this study.
  • To assess the MoCA's utility for both research and clinical settings.

Main Methods:

  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients meeting ACR criteria were enrolled.
  • The Automated Neuropsychological Assessment Metrics (ANAM) was used as the gold standard for cognitive assessment.

  • The MoCA can aid in the routine clinical care of SLE patients by facilitating early detection of CD.
