  • Re-excision rates were also significantly lower in the intraoperative ultrasound group (9% vs. 34%, P=0.04).
  • Lumpectomy volumes were smaller in the intraoperative ultrasound group.

Conclusions:

  • Intraoperative ultrasound is an effective tool for decreasing positive margins in palpable breast cancer lumpectomy.
  • Utilizing intraoperative ultrasound can reduce the need for re-excision, improving patient outcomes and surgical efficiency.
