  • Surgical Dyes
  • Anterior Segment Procedures

Background:

  • Vital dyes are increasingly important in ophthalmic surgery.
  • Trypan blue (TB) is a preferred vital dye for anterior segment surgeons.
  • TB offers safety, availability, and improved surgical visibility.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review techniques and outcomes of anterior segment surgeries using trypan blue (TB).
  • To highlight the utility of TB in challenging surgical scenarios.
  • To discuss the expanding applications of TB in eye surgery.

Main Methods:

  • Review of literature on trypan blue (TB) assisted ophthalmic surgeries.
  • Analysis of surgical techniques and outcomes.
  • Focus on anterior segment procedures including cataract surgery, trabeculectomy, and corneal transplantation.

Main Results:

  • Trypan blue (TB) facilitates surgery by enhancing visualization of target tissues.
  • Its application has been established in cataract surgery for nearly a decade.
  • TB is effectively used in other anterior segment surgeries like trabeculectomy and corneal transplantation.

Conclusions:

  • Trypan blue (TB) is a valuable tool in anterior segment ophthalmic surgery.
  • Its use improves surgical outcomes, particularly in cases with poor visibility.
  • TB dye-assisted surgery represents an important advancement in ophthalmology.
