Lessons learned from a long-term psychoanalysis on the telephone
Abstract:
This article describes my 30+ years of psychoanalysis, the bulk of which has occurred on the telephone. I am publishing the article anonymously so that I can speak freely, without family or professional repercussions, about these vital topics. Of the myriad issues that have been addressed in the treatment, I have elected to focus in this article on separation-individuation challenges, adult-life trauma, career dynamics, silences in analysis, and the value of consultations and adjunctive treatments. The article focuses on the applicability of these themes to my personal life and their relevance to me as a clinician and clinical supervisor.
