Background:

Tattoos are popular among adolescents but often regretted.
Tattoo removal is complex, expensive, and yields unsatisfactory results.
Adolescent awareness of tattoo removal implications is poorly understood.

Purpose of the Study:

To assess awareness of tattoo removal challenges among Italian secondary school students.
To identify factors influencing awareness of tattoo removal consequences.

Main Methods:

A survey was administered to a large sample of Italian secondary school pupils.
Logistic regression analysis was used to determine factors associated with awareness.
Data from 4,277 usable questionnaires were analyzed.

Main Results:

Only 40% of surveyed students were aware of tattoo removal issues.
Male students and those with younger fathers showed lower awareness.
Positive attitudes toward body art and satisfaction with appearance correlated with higher awareness.

Conclusions:

Targeted health education is needed for male adolescents with younger fathers.
School counselors and primary care physicians can deliver these educational programs.
Improving awareness can help adolescents make informed decisions about tattoos.
