Summary

The Profemur®-R cementless modular revision stem shows a 94% survival rate in hip revision arthroplasty. This implant is a viable option for patients with significant bone defects.

  • A consecutive series of 68 revision hip arthroplasties using the Profemur®-R stem were performed between June 2002 and May 2006.

  • Clinical outcomes were assessed using the Harris Hip Score and Merle d'Aubigne score; radiological stability was evaluated using the Agora Roentgenographic Assessment (ARA) system.

Main Results:

  • The overall survival rate of the stem was 94% at a mean follow-up of 5.2 years.
  • Significant improvements were observed in patient function, with the Harris Hip Score increasing from 49.57 preoperatively to 78.28 postoperatively.
  • The Merle d'Aubigne score improved from 9.15 to 14.30, and the mean ARA score of 5.22 indicated high implant stability.

Conclusions:

  • The Profemur®-R cementless modular revision stem demonstrates favorable short-term clinical and radiological results.
  • This prosthesis is a viable and effective option for revision hip arthroplasty, including cases with substantial femoral bone defects.
