Pulmonary artery sarcoma, a rare cancer, can mimic pulmonary embolism. Early diagnosis via CT scans and clinical scores is crucial for surgical treatment and survival.

Background:

Pulmonary artery sarcoma is a rare malignancy often misdiagnosed as pulmonary embolism.
Early detection is critical as surgical resection offers the only chance for long-term survival.

Observation:

A 63-year-old female presented with lung nodules and pulmonary artery blockage on CT.
Clinical prediction scores for pulmonary embolism were low, and CT findings were atypical for thrombi.

Findings:

The patient was diagnosed with intimal sarcoma, a type of pulmonary artery sarcoma.
Surgical resection was performed, offering a potential for long-term survival.

Implications:

Clinicians should consider pulmonary artery sarcoma in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary embolism, especially with atypical CT findings.
