Abstract:
We report a patient with ischemic cardiomyopathy status post implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation in June 2009. Outer insulation failure of her Riata ST ventricular ICD lead goes undetected by routine interrogation and provocative tests as recommended from its manufacturer.(1) Another domain of assessment, fluoroscopy, to facilitate early detection of structural abnormality in this family of ICD lead is discussed.

Electrocardiogram Fundamentals
An electrocardiogram (ECG) is a diagnostic tool for identifying cardiac conditions such as arrhythmias, conduction abnormalities, and myocardial ischemia.
Definition
An electrocardiogram (ECG) visualizes the heart's electrical activity by tracing the electrical movement associated with each heartbeat on a graph or monitor. As the heart beats, an electrical wave passes through it, correlating with the cardiac cycle events.
Parts of an ECG
An ECG utilizes electrodes on the skin to...
Three-Phase Short Circuit—Unloaded Synchronous Machine
This behavior occurs due to the magnetic flux produced by the short-circuit armature currents. Initially, these currents follow high-reluctance paths but eventually shift to...
Charging Conductors By Induction
Generally, conductors like metals do not allow any excess charge to be present on them. Any excess charge added to metals easily flows away, for example, when a metal is placed on the Earth. This process is called earthing.
However, conductors can be charged by a process called induction. For example, consider charging a...
